Smiles on the House the Ruth Built

The last All Star Game legendary Yankee Stadium will ever see was a
worthy tipping of the cap to baseball's greatest park. Appropriately,
Yankee fans thought it more important to jeer the stars of the Boston
Red Socks than to acknowledge their greatness. Babe Ruth after all,
traded by Boston to New York, gave life to the rivalry, the greatest in
American sports history. Fifteen innings of splendid pitching and
defense (for the most part), including an intentional walk to load the
bases with none out that paid off in two force outs at home plate and
one conventional out to end an inning marred by two ultimately
unimportant errors at second. A magnificent throw home from the
outfield and tag at the plate extended the game further, and
appropriately a magnificent throw home from the outfield just a fraction
of a second too late for the tag ended it, with the American League
winning for the twelfth straight year and gaining home field advantage
in the World Series. More important for this time of sentiment, some of
the great players ever to pitch, field, hit and run in Yankee Stadium
stepped onto the field before the first pitch was thrown.

P.S. Just a quick note on professional basketball: having lost Elton
Brand to the Philadelphia Seventy Sixers after acquiring Baron Davis to
play with him, the Los Angeles Clippers collapsed in misery for almost
