Svitov signs with Russian team


COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -Blue Jackets center Alexander Svitov joined a Russian team six weeks after signing a two-year contract extension with Columbus.

Columbus general manager Scott Howson said Svitov signed with his hometown team Avangard Omsk of the Russian Super League for the 2007-08 season.

"We will explore the situation in greater detail with respect to Alexander's contract status and will make a decision after reviewing our options," Howson said.

Walby, Sea Wolves bounce back after Katrina

Steffon Walby had everything going for him.

After years as a player/assistant coach with the Mississippi Sea Wolves, the franchise promoted its former two-time 40-goal scorer to head coach on July 27, 2005.
